SQUEEGGEE BANDIT
documentary 2007 | 75 min | www.squeegeebandit.com
writer/director/producer
Rhonda Kite-executive producer/co-producer (www.kiwafilm.com)

Starfish is a Maori man who earns his living washing car windows at traffic lights. He's a born hustler with an extreme personality-magnetic charisma, heartfelt humour, and a vicious temper. SQUEEGEE BANDIT follows Starfish's struggles-with the law, with homelessness, with drugs, and with his own demons-for the better part of a year. This gritty story of survival on the streets of South Auckland is universal story of sin and redemption.

BEHAVIOURS OF THE BACKPACKER
documentary 2003 | 54 min
writer/director/producer

To make BEHAVIOURS OF THE BACKPACKER, director Sándor Lau, a Chinese/Hungarian-American film student and Fulbright scholar, walked 500km alone from Auckland to Cape Reinga, where Maori spirits depart New Zealand after death. This black comedy fairy-tale documentary records the stories of backpackers from around the world, organic farmers, hostel owners, tour operators, Maori communities, and the filmmaker himself. On the way, Sándor discovers how much half a toothbrush weighs, why we spend our lives walking backwards, and the true distance to home.
